Playbook: trend pullback
Join an established trend on a shallow pullback to value.
What it is
In a trend, price rarely moves in a straight line. A pullback to a moving average, a fair value gap or a discount zone gives an entry with a close stop and the trend behind you.
The trade is: identify the trend on the higher timeframe, wait for a pullback to value, confirm with a trigger, risk a small fraction, and take profit at the prior high with a trailing stop on the remainder.
How to use it
- Higher-timeframe trend is clear (structure plus slope).
- Price pulls back to EMA, zone or VWAP.
- Trigger: rejection candle or structure shift on the lower timeframe.
- Stop beyond the pullback low; target prior high and extension.
Trade the pullback in the direction of the trend.
Common mistakes
- Buying a deep pullback that already broke structure.
- Entering without a trigger.
- Taking profit too early and letting the trend run without you.
